But, what is normal anyway? Using a menstrual calendar will let you know when you typically ovulate. You can’t always go by what you read in textbooks, so taking charge and charting your basal body temperature on a menstrual calendar will give you the best idea of your most fertile days. To create a menstrual calendar, you can find a free one to download online or create your own (which is what I chose to do). Every morning you will take your temperature with a basal body thermometer and mark it on your menstrual calendar. When you ovulate, you will notice and increase in your basal body temperature. After you chart a menstrual calendar for 3-6 months, you can compare charts to see what the average day/days are that you ovulate, thus letting you know when you are typically at your most fertile each month.

Using a menstrual calendar is a great place to start when you are trying to get pregnant. It gives you the basic information you need to know when you will have the best opportunity to conceive each month.
